Great experience with stay at Intercontinental Cancun.

The location of the hotel is great! The room service was excellent. The staff members cared about what we wanted and tried their best to meet what we wanted. Our room rate included breakfast which was of very good quality and included some of the traditional dishes which we really enjoyed. The size of the beach is another plus point at this property which is very spacious and face private beach experience. Overall great stay and experience

Beautiful room, comfortable stay, not enough sunbeds on the beach

Our room was very clean and nice, big, very comfortable. Staff at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Waiters in the bar could be bit friendlier. Everything worked well. Location is good - not too far from the main hub in Cancun (15 mins walk, 5 mins by taxi or public transportation). Amenities were good, however the water in the pool was cold and there was not enought sunbeds for the amount of the room. This was not a problem by the pool, as we found some empty ones, but it was a problem in the beach area. We ended up sitting on the towel for the reason that all sunbeds were occupied - but there was not enough in the first place. Unlike their web page says - THERE IS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION to the hotel in case you would like to take it. From Cancun airport, you go first by ADO bus to the city centre (bus terminal/ station) and from there take Ruta 1 or Ruta 2 to the hotel. The bus stop is right there. Also from there you can explore the hotel zone by the public bus - if you wish so to save money or to have some local experience. Buses are very frequent and work very well. I dont understand why they have wrong information on their web page (or they had in the time of our booking) saying that no public transportation was available. Not true

So-so Stay the Second Time Around

A friend and I stayed at the IC Cancun for the second time this December, following an outstanding first-time stay in summer 2018. Our first trip was wonderful in every way, and so when we decided to spend a second "girls' weekend" in Mexico, we had no hesitation about booking at the IC again. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice for us. Based on our previous experience we opted again for a club-level room (which--this is most definitely worth it); the breakfast spread remains great, and evening canapes were substantial enough that we basically would eat dinner in the lounge. My husband booked the reservation for us as a treat; this is where things went a bit downhill. I went to check-in at the desk but was redirected to the concierge's area to sit down and check-in (it would be "more comfortable", despite my declining when asked if I'd rather check in at the seated area--not necessarily a minus.. just bizarre that after asking my preference they still moved me). Javier checked my friend and I in, and I got a considerable amount of grief for my husband having made the booking and not traveling (I can't imagine I'm the only person that has ever had someone else assist with a booking-- my name was still on the reservation, and this is supposed to be a high-end property for crying out loud). After acknowledging that my husband wasn't traveling, Javier began a mini interrogation (again, what the heck?) on why he wasn't traveling/why he'd made the booking for us.. buddy, we still paid for the room. It left me feeling very uncomfortable and taken aback on what was supposed to be a relaxing start to my vacation. Since we stayed on points for the first night, I asked about paying for club access for that first night (the remaining nights were paid bookings for club-level); Javier said that it would cost $110 ($55/person), which, was fine, and I agreed to (again, he expressed disbelief since he mentioned it was "very expensive). I didn't find $55/person over the top for dinner/breakfast, and confirmed three times that I was ok with this charge; Javier finally said that was "too expensive" and that he'd comp us the first night.. but the system wouldn't let him do it (he then told us to "go into the club lounge anyway, and if they give us a hard time, then maybe we'd have to pay")... or you could take our money so that we could avoid an awkward situation where we were either: A) unable to key into the lounge; or B) we were unceremoniously kicked out. Following this check-in shaming, we went up to our room; we were disappointed not to receive an upgrade of any sort despite being Platinum, repeat clients, and the hotel being nowhere near capacity (a "preferred room" in our room type was indeed available when checking the IHG site. We also found it annoying that we had to backtrack to the desk to request the Platinum "welcome amenity" that Javier forgot to give us ("oh, I didn't already give it to you?" ... who lies to get a free drink coupon when they're staying at a high-end property??). The rest of our stay was rather uneventful. Bernardo at the beach restaurant was wonderful (as he was on our previous stay); and Angel in the lounge was super attentive and outgoing. The service from the rest of the staff was perfectly on point. One last gripe--the "no smoking" rule on the beach isn't enforced at all. A family rented a cabana directly in front of our loungers and proceed to chain smoke for hours. I complained to the cabana manager (a different Javier) who essentially shrugged that while he would say something, he couldn't do anything further about it.. it's a property rule! At least several other groups relocated loungers since they were also being bothered. Unbelievable

Second Time This Year at This Beautiful Resort

I stayed at the InterContinental Cancun for the second time, in Nov 2019. The property is upscale yet relaxed. The restaurants are outstanding and have a nice variety of freshly prepared food. We enjoyed the art throughout the property. The staff provides a high level of service and attention. Humberto Santos was very helpful to us several times and the service in the beach bar, restaurants, and club lounge was A+
