Saved my Cancun Vacation!

The Intercontinental was sold out when I booked another "resort" in Cancun. I arrived at the other "resort" on December 22nd to find it was a dump. In tears, I used the IHG app and found rooms had become available. At 7:30am on the 23rd, I fled the other "resort" and arrived. It was really early in the morning, but, they had upgraded me to an ocean view room and that room was ready! My luck changed! The room, though not a suite, was very large with a king size bed and even a sofa. The bathroom had a glass walk in shower and you could look out and see the ocean. Everything was super clean and modern. The tv was a flat screen LG. The mattress was soft and had a nice comforter, so I could crank down the ac to sleep. My only complaint was the (unused) adjoining room door was thin and I could hear the child screaming each time it threw a tantrum. The lobby is awesome with marble. You go down stairs to the desks and the club lounge. Everyone working the IHG desk and the club lounge was more than friendly and helpful. I don't speak Spanish and had to change my car service pick up and they took care of it for me. There are two pools. The water was cold (to me) so I didn't go in. There were tons of loungers around the pools and on the beach and the crews kept bringing more out as needed. The beach area is really big and very clean. I ate at the breakfast buffet and was shocked by how good it was. I especially liked the presentation of donuts on pegs and bacon strips hanging. And though not a restaurant, Christmas Eve, they hung holiday cookies on each room door. Nice little extra to really make guests feel welcome! At check out, there were no surprises or extra charges. Check out was easy and as I waited for my car service transfer to the airport, the bellman had me go sit and he would come get me when my ride arrived. Everything about my stay was a true 5 * experience. (I spend 75 nights a year in hotels). I will definitely return to this Intercontinental

Long Beach Holiday

Just finished a 30-night stay for an extended holiday vacation. From the moment we arrived, we were taken care of very well. Fredi met us at the door, and personally escorted us to Claudia at the front desk to get us checked in. (This was only the first of many interactions we would have, and they were always there if you needed anything). Christian, bartender at the lobby bar, is the friendliest guy you might ever meet. Initial impressions of the property was that it was well maintained, with a low-key, relaxing vibe. We were brought to our 5th floor oceanfront Club suite and it did not disappoint. The room came with Club lounge access, and it was there we first met Luis (Gallo) and Omar. These two provide an impeccable level of service. We made the nightly "happy hour" part of our routine. The food and drinks were very good, and again, the level of service was outstanding. They also have breakfast in the lounge in the morning, with snacks and beverages available through the afternoon. This is where Gustavo and Carlos provided yet another excellent experience. They make sure that all of your needs and wishes are taken care of, and if you leave breakfast hungry, it's your own fault. The grounds, pool, and beach are very nice. The sand is sugary soft and cool. No seaweed. Best beach around. Jose, the lifeguard, will keep watch over you, even though the water is very calm. Location is very good, transportation is easy. There is a Go Mart across the street, and getting into the Central tourist area is an easy walk. Really the best part was just how genuine and nice the entire staff was. I hope that the management of the hotel will pass this on to all of the employees

Good hotel in resort area

The deluxe room facing the street (vs water) was fine, but pretty basic. There was only one robe in the room and no slippers. No carpet in the room, probably easier to clean after people visit the beach. Food was okay - breakfast not anything special, but the restaurant did overlook the beach and had a nice view

The best beach in Cancun

The beaches in Cancun have changed in the past decades due to the pounding of hurricanes. I´ve been in many different hotels in Cancun and all the Mayan Riviera, and this is, by far, the best beach: flat, long, with white powdered sand. There are fancier hotels, and many have nicer restaurants, but not this beach. The rooms are very large, up to date, with a big bathroom and a terrace
